IP Convergence Layer with QoS Support for HIPERLAN/2

چکیده
The project Broadband Radio Access for IP based Networks (BRAIN) is a European project focusing on the provisioning of wireless IP services with fixed network Quality of Service (QoS) support over a HIPERLAN/2 air interface. This paper proposes a generic interface for controlling the QoS features of wireless link layers, discusses the related requirements and design issues, and investigates a particular implementation in the context of HIPERLAN/2.

Serving IP quality of service with HiperLAN/2
The European project BRAIN investigates system concepts to provide wireless broadband access to the QoS-based Internet. As basis for the BRAIN radio access HiperLAN/2 is considered. In this paper we propose functions enhancing the HiperLAN/2 radio interface to support IP QoS. Thereby our special focus is on the system ability to schedule the various connections dedicated for IP traffic accordin...
متن کاملConcepts for IP-based radio interface in the BRAIN framework
Considering that mobile communications systems and the Internet are key technologies for the development of the information society, one objective of the European IST project BRAIN is the design of a mobile broadband IP radio interface. This radio interface is based on the ETSI HIPERLAN Type 2 standard with some enhancements necessary to optimise the system for the delivery of IP broadband serv...

This paper presents the demonstration results of a Wireless LAN (WLAN) prototype compliant with the European ETSI BRAN HiperLAN/2 standard. The HiperLAN/2 system enables bit rates from 6 Mbit/s up to 54 Mbit/s on top of a 5GHz wireless link and its powerful MAC/DLC layer enables Quality of Service (QoS) for multimedia applications up to 40 Mbit/s.

This paper presents some experiences with Class of Service (CoS) translation in IP and MPLS based networks. IP provides CoS in the form of eight priority classes that can be used to distinguish between a variety of traffic types. Since most of the layer-2 technologies provide support for strict QoS, an appropriate translation from the coarse grained IP CoS to the finegrained layer-2 QoS is fund...
متن کاملLayered view of QoS issues in IP-based mobile wireless networks
With the convergence of wireless communication and IP-based networking technologies, future IP-based wireless networks are expected to support real-time multimedia. IP services over wireless networks (e.g. wireless access to Internet) enhance the mobility and flexibility of traditional IP network users. Wireless networks extend the current IP service infrastructure to a mix of transmission medi...
